FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH

  • 12:00 - 1:30 pm
    • Luncheon for land trusts (sponsored by ACT, CTF, and the PIEC).
    • Learn about the role of a land trust, legislative issues affecting land trusts, and the reason an alliance of land trusts is needed.
    • Speakers are Robert Hutchinson and Kathy Baughman McLeod.
    • Box lunch served, cost is $10. Pay at the door or pay CTF in advance.

  • 2:00 - 5:00 pm
    • Organizational meeting for Florida Alliance of Land Trusts (sponsored by ACT, CTF, & LTA).
    • Includes an update on LTA's current efforts to revise the Land Trust Standards and Practices and other issues affecting land trusts.
    • Facilitated by Chuck Roe of the Land Trust Alliance Southeast, with a special presentation by Kevin McGorty of the Red Hills Conservation Program.

    • Includes a discussion of LTA needs assessment for Florida land trusts.
    • Facilitated by Chuck Roe of the Land Trust Alliance Southeast

  • 12:00 - 1:00 pm
    • Lunch (sponsored by CTF).
    • Presentation by Ron Howard from the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Ron will present information during lunch about state and federal land conservation and stewardship programs..
    • $25 fee for the lunch and workshop. Pay CTF at the door or in advance.
    • Reitz Union, Room B75 & B76 (in basement)
  • 1:00 - 5:00 pm
    • Workshop on estate planning with Jerry Cosgrove (sponsored by CTF) will focus on both the substance (what) and the process (how) of estate planning issues for farmers and other rural landowners.
    • Geared towards land trust board members and staff, government agency personnel, and professionals such as professors and attorneys.
    • Copies of "Your Land is Your Legacy, A Guide to Planning the Future of Your Farm," by Jerry Cosgrove and Julia Freedgood will be available for sale at $8 each.
    • $25 fee for the lunch and workshop. Pay CTF at the door or in advance.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH

  • Estate Planning Workshop for Landowners at the HERLONG MANSION B&B IN MICANOPY.
  • 12:00 - 1:00 pm
    • FREE BBQ Lunch (sponsored by CTF.)
    • Presentation by Ron Howard from the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Ron will present information during lunch about state and federal land conservation and stewardship programs.
  • 1:00 - 4:00 pm
    • Workshop on estate planning with Jerry Cosgrove (sponsored by CTF) will focus on the economic benefits of conservation easements and ways to reduce property, federal income, and estate taxes. Additional topics covered at the workshop include life estates, charitable remainder trusts, and business organization strategies.
    • FREE copies of "Your Land is Your Legacy, A Guide to Planning the Future of Your Farm," by Jerry Cosgrove and Julia Freedgood will be given to landowners who attend.

The cost to attend is $35 for both days - $10 for lunch on Friday (2/25) and $25 for the lunch/workshop on Saturday (2/26). You can choose to attend one or both days.   1. From I-75, Exit #384 (State Road 24/Archer Road)
    • East on Archer Road for 2.6 miles to North-South Drive
    • Turn left onto North-South Drive for 1/2 mile to Museum Road
    • Turn right on Museum Road for 1 block
    • Turn left into the Reitz Union's driveway
  2. From US 441 (13th Street)
    • Turn west on Museum Road for 1/2 mile.
    • The Reitz Union is on the right, just past Center Drive
  3. From State Road 24 (Waldo Road)
    • South on SR 24 to University Avenue (SR 26)
    • Right on University Avenue for 1.7 miles to US 441 (13th Street)
    • Left on US 441 for 1/2 mile to Museum Road
    • Right on Museum Road for 1/2 mile-The Reitz Union is on the right, just past Center Drive
  4. From the Gainesville Regional Airport
    • Exit the airport drive
    • Right on SR 222 (39th Avenue) for 4 miles to US 441 (13th Street)
    • Left on US 441 for 3 miles to Museum Road
    • Right on Museum Road for 1/2 mile
    • The Reitz Union is on the right, just past Center Drive

Parking

The Visitor Welcome Center and Bookstore parking garage is located at the Reitz Union, at the corner of Museum Road and Reitz Union Drive. The garage is an unrestricted pay facility available to all members of the university community. This garage can accommodate 300 vehicles. There are 45 short-term parking spaces located in the garage. The garage hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Short-term and daily fees apply during this time. The garage may be used during non-operating hours for short-term parking, free of charge. Parking may be reserved in this garage for conferences and special events held at the Reitz Union or in nearby facilities.
